Our family room has been and will be for awhile a work in progress. If you've read any of my earlier posts about our family room you will remember it started out looking like this.
Then this...
And today this...

As you can see this room has been through a lot of changes in the nine months we've lived here. The most recent change came about this weekend when I painted all the brown trim white! I hate painting trim it really is no fun at all. But four coats of paint later and the room looks so much brighter!
I still have my to do list for this room and can finally check one more thing off.
hang flat screen over fireplacepaint fireplace mantelpaint roomhang curtainsnew furniture- get rug
hang family photos- new flooring (eventually)
paint brown trim white- what to do with those awkward shaped windows
Not too bad, huh
I only have a few more items to check off!
Before I sign off I want to announce that I am holding my very first linky party next Wednesday! I hope you will all come by and support me by linking up. Please let others know as well. My worst fear is to host a party with no guests!
Thanks for your time today!
Amy
Very Nice.

Wow! Do you have a post on how you painted the trim? I'm getting ready to tackle that project & never have done anything like it. I'd love some tips! :) Your room is awesome. Just found you through HOH. I'll be poking around.
ReplyDeleteYes, if you check out my entry makeover I give some tips on painting trim. Mostly you just have to have lot's of patience and take your time. I sanded the trim first, then dusted everything, taped off around the trim, and then painted with a paint and primer in one. It takes a lot of coats to cover brown trim but it's worth the effort! Good luck!

I found you via Sassy Sites (congrats on being featured!) and I had to come over. Love the new room! Our house continues to be a work in progress and it's so nice to look at someone else's house and say "ok, mine will get there some day!" I, too, had crazy dark red walls to deal with, not to mention lots of trim to paint - so I feel ya on all those! Love the details - especially the overlapping handprints!!!! And that TV, wowzers! That would go perfect over our fireplace because we don't want one that's obvious but every once in awhile it'd be nice to have a TV in another room of the house. Now I'm off to look/stalk your blog! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm happy you stopped by. Glad I'm not the only member of the "paint the trim club". Feel free to stalk my blog anytime!

Looking good. I am always moving our family room around with leather couches, trying to find the best arrangement and look. I like your stripe curtains, they look great. I have also been busy painting our trim white, it's quite the project!
ReplyDeleteHaving large furniture can be tricky. Glad you stopped by. Good luck with your trim.

Your room looks great and I love those curtains! I have to say that your TV is awesome! I didn't even know you could do that. I need to do the trim in my bedroom and have been dreading that too. Great job on yours. Thanks so much for linking up to The Creative Spark - I hope to see you again!
ReplyDeleteJenn :)
Love what you did to your Family Room. Maybe with the windows you could put white sheers up. Hang the sheers from the corner over past the windows a couple of inches. Still get the light to come in but you wouldn't see the windows 100%. Just a thought. Stopping over from Serenity Now Link Park. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful room! It looks so comfortable. And you're making great progress on your list! Thanks for linking up!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe you have only been there 9 months and have done soo much! It looks great! Thanks for sharing at Fabulous Friday. I now have you added to my weekly list of link parties to link up to.
ReplyDeleteThat looks really nice. Don't you just love that font where you can strike out what you have completed or used. It feels so accomplished to be able to strike things out. I love the tans and browns. I was showing Jim "look how nice this looks honey, but then she has this weird picture over the mantle of a speedometer." He says "that's a T.V. honey." Ha LOL
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful transformation! I love the color! Oh and I really want your new TV!!! So cool!! Thanks for sharing this as well at Thursday's Temptation.

I feel your pain...several years ago I painted all of our trim and doors white. Hubby would take them down for me, but I did the sanding and the painting...I painted the doors on 6 bedroom closets, 1 linen closet...4 bathroom doors...6 bedroom doors...mudroom door...3 exterior doors...2 coat closets...I banister...and all the floor trim and windows in every single room of this house. It took me an entire summer...while working full time...what a job...the kicker is...it's time for a fresh coat...and I want to change the color slightly (just warm it up a notch)...and I have lost my mojo...anyway...I love the white trim...so I am not sorry...yous looks great! I love the TV!!!! I'm your newest follower!

ReplyDeleteAmy!!!! I am dying to do a similar look to my family room. It's really coincidental that I stumbled upon your site. Please see my recent post about my fireplace. What's even crazier is we are having the room painted in Barnyard next week!! Whhhhaaatt??? lol My husband is against the painting of the fireplace and I feel like crying because i know how great it could look. I'm showing him your page when I get home.
