Master bedroom entertainment wall

Oh my goodness, I don't even know where to start this blog post. I'll begin with apologizing for taking such a long blogging hiatus. I've been busy working on items for my Etsy shop and honestly I haven't really completed anything I felt blog worthy. I know that's no excuse for not dropping by but sometimes I think it helps to step away from blogging for awhile (atleast for me).

Any way I wanted to share a little updating that my husband and I have been doing in our master bedroom. Let me start by stating that our room is large approximately 19' x 20' . On the wall opposite our bed we had an old school television and entertainment center. I know some couples prefer not having a TV in the bedroom, but we are not one of those couples! 

My husband finally decided he'd had enough and purchased a bigger television for our room (when I first saw it I thought he was crazy). We mounted it on the wall and then built a long table underneath to hold our cable box, DVD player and other items. We used the plans from Liz Marie blog. It was easy and inexpensive to make (win win). Then to complete the wall and hide two white outlets above the TV I made a large wood sign.

I wasn't sure about adding the brown wood tones to our gray and white bedroom, but I love it now. Later this summer I hope to add some more on the other side of our room to tie everything together.

If my budget allows I have some other small projects I would like to get done this summer while I'm free (no babysitting). I promise I'm not going to drop off the face of the earth again (atleast not right now).

our master bathroom

If you've been following my blog for awhile you may have realized that I have never showed you our master bathroom. Well there was a reason...it was a boring, neglected space that I never had the energy or money to tackle. Until last week!

I still didn't have a huge budget to work with, but being stuck indoors with all this snow I finally had the free time to work on it!

I spent three days just painting. Day one I painted all the trim, day two I painted the vanity and door, day three I painted the walls! It is amazing what a can of paint can do!

Here are some BEFORE pics of our master bathroom.

I loved the size of our master bathroom just not the finishes. The yellow and baby blue walls weren't terrible just not for me, and the oak {sigh} well it's oak.  Finally the vanity lacked storage with that wasted space underneath.

Here are some DURING photos. Once I get started on project I have a hard time stopping and taking photos so there aren't very many.

Our bathroom and master bedroom have an opening that SOMEDAY I would like to have drywalled. Yes, that is me on the very top of the ladder painting the bathroom.

As I mentioned earlier the biggest change in the room is just paint. The trim is nice and bright now. I painted the door and vanity black. The walls are painted in Behr graceful gray.

My husband framed the existing builders mirror for me and added a new light fixture. We added some floating shelves from Ikea above the toilet for more storage and some new towels brighten up the space.

I would still like to do something with the windows above the tub...maybe frame them out...not sure yet {open to suggestions}. In the future I would love to replace the flooring as well! 

For now I am enjoying our relaxing and peaceful new space!

faux wood bookcase makeover part 2

I wanted to pop in today and show you my bookcases now that they are filled and styled. Monday I shared how I covered the back of the bookcases in faux wood paper from the craft store, but they look so much better now that they are no longer empty.

 

 



 

 

 

 

I spent yesterday filling them with books, pictures, and things that I already had around the house. I love how they turned out and I'm looking forward to getting more books to help fill the shelves.

faux wood bookcase makeover

Hi all! Sorry for the lack of posts lately. I've had my hands full with my newest adventure...babysitting. I recently started babysitting an adorable 3 month old baby boy for some family friends. I forgot how time consuming babies can be and haven't been able to get much done! I'm hoping that we'll get more of routine down and I'll be able to carve out a little diy time for myself!

 

One thing I've been wanting to get done for months now is sprucing up the laminate bookcases that now live in our master bedroom. Over the summer I redecorated my daughters bedroom and we relocated her bookcases to our master bedroom. You can see her new room here and our master bedroom here.

 

It all started months ago when I saw some awesome faux wood backed bookcases KariAnne at thislewood farms had done. She even shared where she found this cool paper...my favorite store, Hobby Lobby! To read her full tutorial {if you haven't already} head on over.

The paper comes in a huge roll {4ft x 12ft} for only $8.99 plus I used my 40% off coupon! I used double sided tape to attach the paper to bookcase.

 

 



 

 

 

 

The paper totally transforms the look of the bookcases and the best part was the price!

 

Now I can't wait to decorate and fill the shelves with all my favorite things!

DIY bed skirt

Happy Monday everyone! Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Last week I very proudly showed you my master bedroom makeover.

It's hard to tell in the photo, but our bed is on raisers (long story but my dear husband wanted to be able to store one of his workout machines under our bed). When it came time to shop for new bedding and a bed skirt I couldn't find anything long enough. Standard bed skirts (aka dust ruffle, weird name) were way to short. So with little to no money to spend I decided to whip something up myself.

I headed to our linen closet and pulled out two rarely used white twin size top sheets. Then I cut each in half lengthwise.

 I used pins to attach the sheet directly into our box spring. I used three halved sheets, one for each side of the mattress. The sheets were the perfect length and I could pin them to the correct height.

 I made sure to use the hemmed part of the sheet not the cut part as the bottom of the bed skirt. 

So far we've had our bed skirt on our bed for a month and it hasn't budged (even with kids hopping in and out of our bed).

I love FREE!

Master bedroom reveal

Today I am finally ready to show off my newly decorated master bedroom! It took a little longer then I planned, but I am truly happy with the results. Plus, I was able to keep this makeover under my teeny tiny budget!

Just to refresh your memory here is a look at the BEFORE.

We simply moved in and unpacked and left the room like this for the past year and a half.

As I mentioned earlier I was on a tight budget with this room. I saved money by using all of my existing furniture and painting it. I also shopped for bargains and threw in some DIY projects. I was able to complete this room for under $300.00 total! {cheering}

13. Accent pillow Hobby Lobby clearance about 6 months ago $5.00

Now I can actually enjoy spending time in my bedroom instead of cringing every morning waking up to bright gold walls!

Of course there are always things that can be done in the future {like a cozy little reading chair in the corner} but for now we are HAPPY! After a break I'll have to tackle our gold and blue master bathroom as well!
