Extension farmhouse table

I know I promised I would show you pics of our new farmhouse table in all of it's extended glory weeks ago, but it just seems like life is getting busier and busier. Since I blog strictly for a hobby my posts have become far and few between. I have good intentions of blogging more often, it's just finding the time when I'm in the "blogging zone". You know what I mean. 

So now on to our farmhouse table which you already saw in our newly decorated dining room. Today I want to share some photos of the building process and what the table and benches look like when extended.

Before building our table my husband and I looked at many tables and plans on Pinterest. We settled on a table that we saw in a local furniture store ad (here). The store table was over $1,300, we built our table and two benches for around $200! I do not have plans for how we built our table but there are tons of plans for similar tables available online.

My husband built our table in our unheated garage in the middle of winter. Try not to pay much attention to the messy garage. 

So here are some pics of the building process.

I love the color of the weathered gray stain I used.

This is the table when not extended it is 7 feet long.

Both ends slide out and the extra pieces are stored underneath.

The two extra table leaves are secured in the middle. The benches pull apart as well and a wood extension piece is added to each end. 

The table is 9.5 feet long when fully extended.

In reality we will only use the table extended a few times a year for holidays and birthdays, but it's nice to have the option and extra seating available if needed.

Dining Room with farmhouse table

Last week I showed you the progress I had made in our dining room. Since then my husband and I have been busy putting the room back together. I recently sold our old table and chairs on Craigslist and my husband completed the farmhouse table and benches he has been working on. We also added some shelving and new decor to the room.

My husband (who keeps amazing me with new skills) made the farmhouse table and benches for the room which saved us a pretty penny. All in we spent less than $200 for the table and two benches. I used Min-wax Classic Gray stain and a clear matte polyurethane. The table and benches are actually expandable, I will share more on that later this week.

We already had the wood for the shelving in our garage. I stained it to match the table and found some inexpensive brackets at Menards. 

Our dining room is small roughly 10x13 and attached to my craft room and the kitchen. 

I made the GATHER sign with leftover wood that I distressed with paint and stain. The awesome letters are all from Michael's, I attached them to the wood with Liquid Nails and JB Weld (that stuff is super strong).

I'm so happy with the room and excited to complete the rest of the projects!

Easy dresser makeover

Last month we installed new flooring throughout our main floor which meant moving all our furniture around. You all know how much I LOVE rearranging my furniture! 

I'm currently making some changes to my craft room and decided to relocate this dresser here. I was over the blue stripes so I decided to change them out for gray.

It took about ten minutes to tape off the stripes and paint over them in gray.

I was actually considering getting rid of this piece, but now I'm just smitten with it.

Ikea Tarva dresser makeover

I have been on the hunt for a dresser since I made over my daughter's room back in January. I searched Craigslist and our local thrift shops, but everything I liked was way too expensive especially for second hand. Then I saw this Ikea dresser hack on Pinterest.

I knew instantly that it was just what her room needed. My husband and I made the short trip to Ikea and picked up a Tarva dresser. After he assembled it, it looked like this.

I gave it a nice coat of primer and white paint.

I used this FolkArt metallic gold paint on the base of the dresser and added the same knobs from Menards as the inspiration dresser.

I am in love with how this dresser turned out. 

I also added some new artwork that my daughter picked out to finish off that side of the room.

Since her room reveal we've added some new accessories to the other side of her room.

I found the coral bean bag chair on clearance at Target for $9.99 and the gold HELLO pillow is from Hobby Lobby.

Zebra desk

Yesterday I shared my daughter's rearranged bedroom which included the zebra desk I painted. Today I want to show you how I did it.

We painted the inside of all the drawers pink for fun!

We started with just a basic wood desk from the local thrift shop. I gave the desk a quick cleaning and then my helper and I painted the inside of the drawers with leftover wall paint.

I gave the desk a coat of primer.

Once the primer was dry I gave the drawers a coat of white paint. The desk required two coats of black paint.

I found the zebra stencil at Hobby lobby {I paid less than $10.00 for stencil and sponge applicators}.

I taped the stencil on the drawer to keep it in place.

I went easy on the paint and just dabbed up and down.

I had to match up the pattern with the stencil to fill the negative space on the ends of the drawer.

Lastly we added some adorable knobs and pulls also from Hobby Lobby {wait until they are on sale for 50% off}.

Now my daughter has a desk that truly suits her taste and personality! It kind suits mine as well {well the younger me}!
