diy underbed storage

I don't know why but all of my children are pack rats. They have to keep everything! Kid's menu's from restaurants, we have them. Thousands of pieces of paper with doodling and drawings, we have them. Candy from Halloween three years ago, sadly we have this too!

Over the weekend I decided my daughter's room needed some cleaning, purging, and organizing. I wanted to utilize all of the space under her bed without spending any dinero!

I had some cardboard boxes that fit perfectly under her bed and decided to spruce them up with some paint.

The first thing I did was cut the top flaps off of the boxes. I used some leftover paint to paint all sides of the boxes.

I wanted to paint a chevron pattern on some of them so I used a ruler and pencil to mark the lines.

Then I taped off my lines and painted on the white chevron.

Now we have plenty of room for all the miscellaneous items my daughter has. She can easily pull them in and out to access her things. Not to mention how excited I get when I finish a free project!
I would love to see your free projects! Please e-mail me if you would like to share your creations here! Please see contact information above.
Have a wonderful Monday!

  1. Oooo - I love the look of the boxes underneath the bed. It looks great to have a chevron pattern be every other box. Have you labeled them in some way to designate what items go in each box?

    1. I would love to label them in the future. I figured we should live with them for awhile to see what works where for my daughter. Thank you for visiting.

  9. I was shocked when you said these were cardboard boxes. The paint really makes them look nice! I never would have guessed from the picture. Thanks for sharing at Terrific Tuesdays. I'll be hoarding cardboard boxes from now on.

  16. Wow, I love these -- so simple and an awesome way to reuse old boxes. I might have to try something like this with my kids' rooms. Right now their floors are an absolute mess...we desperately need more storage. Thanks for the idea -- I'm your newest follower!

  20. I was curious what type of paint you used and if you used any sort of primer?? We just got rid of our dresser in the bedroom and hung up 8 foot shelves and the cheapest box solution I have found were banker boxes, but was unsure of how to cover/paint them so they match.
P.S. Actually just did my bedroom in the grey, white, and smokey plum LOL

    1. Hi Alana! The boxes I used were just cardboard boxes so I didn't need to prime them. Any type of slick surface I would primer first though. So glad you could stop by!

  21. Is there any particular size box that works best for these underbed storage boxes?

  22. Very good idea. I have been looking at the box beds, but they are heavy and ugly and do not have the traditional look. I should try this out.
