Floral crown headpieces

My daughter and I have spent the past couple evenings making beautiful floral crowns for a school project. 

She came up with the idea to make these and I quickly jumped on the bandwagon. 

(she was less than thrilled to model for me)

Here are the supplies needed...

1. wired twine

2. floral tape

3. hot glue gun

4. wire cutters or heavy duty scissors

5. flowers

Step One...

Measure and cut wire twine (I wrapped mine around my daughter's head to get a rough measurement) add a couple of inches so you have extra to twist close. 

Step two...

Cut or pull off selected petals and stems. Use floral tape to tightly wrap stem to wire twine. In some cases our flowers had no stems so we hot glued them on. 

Step three...

Keep attaching flowers until completely covered.

The finished products...

We made a dozen of these which took us a couple evenings to complete, but I'm sure her classmates will love them!

I might have to make one for myself!

Painted books

Today I have an inexpensive little project to share with you. 

Painted books.

It's really that easy...

1.Find some old books at a garage sale or thrift store

2. Paint them with acrylic craft paint

3. Distress the edges with a brown stamping ink pad

Here are the same books before I painted them.

Since some of the books were dark in color it did take several coats of white paint to get good coverage. Once the paint dried I ran my stamp pad along the edges. I've also heard of people using sandpaper to distress the edges. 

They look beautiful on my family room coffee table, and I only spent around $2.00 for the books. Love it!

New sign for my Craft room

Ever since we redid our floors I've been working on restyling my craft room. I'll be sharing my entire craft room next week (fingers crossed). 

I had one wall that was in need of attention and a free afternoon so this is what I came up with.

I already had all the supplies I needed so this was a FREE project!

I started off by cutting my wood to size and then painting it white.

The letters were previously hung in my craft space when it was in our basement. They were black so I  gave them a few coats of gold spray paint.

I measured for my stripes and marked them in pencil before taping them off.

A coat of black paint finished off the board.

When the letters were dry I added Velcro dots to the backs and attached them to the board. I thought about gluing them on but I liked the idea of being able to remove the letters in case I decide to repaint them down the road.

Wood growth chart

Last weekend I attended a baby shower for my cousins wife who is due with their first baby this spring. I was excited to make them a special gift and something that I've been wanting to try for awhile. I've seen numerous wood growth charts and rulers on Pinterest and couldn't wait to try my own.

I ended up making two because I have two cousins expecting babies!

I set up my staining station in our garage {very glamorous}.

I stained one dark brown and the other weathered gray.

To make the chevron design I measured and cut out the shape on paper. Then I traced my cut out onto the wood.

Once I had the lines traced I taped them off with painter's tape.

I used white craft paint and a sponge brush for the chevron design. I gave the paint a few minutes to dry and removed the tape.

Then I used a tape measure to make all my measurement markings. Notice my little helper!

I used a ruler to make the lines straight and then went over them with a black sharpie marker.

I printed out my numbers onto copy paper and taped them onto the board. I used carbon paper to trace the numbers and then painted them in by hand with black paint.

Mom to be loved the growth chart and now I can't wait to make one for our home!

framed atlas pages

Time to change up the art in my craft room...again.

This quick swap only took a few minutes and cost under a dollar. 

I had three black frames that were previously in my daughter's bedroom.

I also had an old atlas that I picked up at the thrift store for .50 cents.

I picked out three pages that had some meaning. North America, Ohio our home state and the Philippines where my husband is from.

I love how they look in my craft room with my globes.

I love the pop of color in the room and changing things around always makes me HAPPY!
