Painted chipboard planter

I'm back today for a simple and quick project that I recently
picked up at the Target "dollar spot" for just $3.00!
I knew this could be a cute little spring project!

All you need is a planter of some sort, paint, stamps, and some flowers.

The planter started off like this...

I removed the jute handles and then gave the planter two coats of white semi gloss paint. I let it dry and then used some foam stamps from my scrapbooking stash to dress it up a little. I reattached the jute handles and added two small pots of flowers. Since the planter is chipboard I remove the flowers when watering them.

About thirty minutes and only $7.00 {$3.00 for planter and $4.00 for the flowers}.

Thanks for coming by!

I'm back and celebrating the first day of spring

I know it's been awhile, but I'm back!
I had some unexpected health issues come up that I had to deal with and have spent the past few weeks recovering from surgery. The good news is that I'm now feeling better and healthy!

I've been looking forward to today for a long time...the first day of spring!

I spent last week adding some spring touches to the house. One area I love to decorate is the shelf in our main entryway.

Now if only the weather would cooperate and stay warm!

Have a wonderful day!

Spring mantel and painted birdcage

Sorry I haven't been around this week I've been battling a nasty cold. I have tons of projects and ideas floating around in my head, but my body just doesn't want to get with the program.

Over the past week I've been tweaking my fireplace mantel to feel more like spring. You know the drill...run around the house from room to room grabbing items then running back to the fireplace to see how they look and then eventually putting most of those items back where you originally found them! I know I'm not alone here! It's a game I play a lot!

After a couple of days this is what I came up with.

I wanted to keep it simple with just a few touches of blue and yellow. That mirror over our fireplace is actually our television so I couldn't put anything on it {like a cute little moss wreath}. Plus I didn't want to spend any money!

The birdcage I've had for years, and last week it looked like this.

After several coats of spray paint it looks totally different! I was considering selling this at an upcoming garage sale, but now I am in LOVE with it again!

Today I plan on staying indoors {out of that surprise snow that came overnight} and trying to rest. I might even pop in my Breaking Dawn dvd and curl up on the couch. Take care and stay warm!

DIY Spring wreath

Over the weekend I was inspired to make a spring wreath. I know about time right. I've been seeing beautiful wreaths all over blog land and Pinterest and knew I had to try one myself. Here is what I came up with...

Supplies I used..
a straw wreath form
burlap
I used cotton t-shirts from Michael's to make the flowers
felt
ribbon
slate board

For some reason I was so into making putting it all together I forgot to take photos along the way!

I started by wrapping the wreath in the burlap. I used a hot glue gun to keep the burlap in place.

To make the flowers I roughly followed the tutorial at Kiki Creates. They were not too difficult to make as long as you don't mind burning your fingers on hot glue.  I had my daughter's cut the shirts into 2-3 inch strips. I used the felt as the base or bottom of the flowers. I tied a knot in end of fabric strip to use as flowers center and hot glued it on the center of a felt circle. Basically just twisted and wrapped fabric around and around forming a flower and gluing as I went along. Really just trial and error!

Have a great day and don't forget to come back tonight for Whimsy Wednesday features and link party!
