gray and coral kid/teen bathroom

My kid's bathroom is finally completed! After starting and stopping and starting again it is finally finished!

My kids are growing up way to quickly and with two teenagers (one boy and one girl) and a ten year old daughter I wanted this bathroom to represent their fun and quirky personalities! When we first moved here three years ago I played it safe and went with brown and blue and a little boring! I think it's safe to say it isn't boring anymore!

I began this little makeover all the way back in November when we needed a new towel holder (you can read about it here). I also fell in love with the bright shower curtain from Target at the same time. Then the room sat until February when I tackled the brown trim and removed the ugly builder's towel bar and toilet paper holder.

I had a great time prying those things off the walls! My husband wasn't too thrilled to come home from work and find three holes in the drywall!

Before we could even begin on patching the drywall I had some unexpected health issues that put our lives on hold for two months (I promise I will be sharing that story soon).

Once I was back to my old self again I got my husband on board to fix the holes and last week I got the room painted and decorated!

I completed the room for around $130

I used leftover paint from our master bathroom Behr graceful gray on the walls and a sample size of Behr Japanese kimono on the vanity.

The most expensive change was the light fixture. You can't see it in the before pics but we had a hideous builders boob light (you all know what I'm talking about).

The kids also got new towels. The coral towel is from Meijers and the turquoise and gray towels are from Target. I also found the glass jars at Target in the "dollar spot" as well as the green toothbrush holders.

I kind of stumbled upon the canvas artwork at a local Big Lot's store that was going out of business. Everything was 50% off so I only paid $7.50.

Everything came together perfectly and the kids are glad to finally have a completed bathroom!

Kids bathroom update and a colorful pallet clock

Last week I finally got the kids bathroom painted and worked on getting it completed. I will be showing you the room later this week!

 One project I worked on was a clock for the room since the kiddos are always running late in the morning. I bought a cheap $4.00 clock and used some pallets and paint to dress it up.

I already had leftover pallets and paint so the entire project only cost $4.00.
Once the pallets were attached together on the back and painted I just added a screw to the center to hang the clock from.

I love the pop of color it brings to the bathroom!

Coral bathroom vanity

My kids bathroom has been in a state of limbo for months now {and still is}. I wanted to bring in some color and brighten it up. What I thought would be a quick little makeover has been in the works since November when I shared the new towel holder I made {here}.

Then the holidays came, and then my surgery and recovery. The bathroom sat for months and months. I have stuff lined up all along the hallway outside the bathroom just waiting to be addressed.

Last weekend I got started again on the bathroom by painting the vanity coral {the paint had been sitting there since before my surgery}.

Here she is now...

It's hard to get a great picture I either had to stoop inside the bathtub or on the hallway floor.

The color is Japanese Kimono by Behr.

It is bright and the husband isn't too crazy about it, but I love it! Now I can't wait to get the walls painted and add some accessories.

dot to dot

Today I am sharing how I painted the polka dots in my children's bathroom.



I used a piece of heavy scrapbook paper to make my stencil or you could also use construction paper. I then used my scrapbooking circle cutter to cut out the size of polka dot I wanted. If you don't have one of these you could trace a small bowl or other object onto your paper and then carefully cut it out with scissors.

 I used clear packaging tape on the sides of my stencil to hold it to the wall.

I used a small foam brush to paint around the edges of the stencil. The trick is to go easy on the paint (too much paint and it will leak under the stencil). When going around the outside of the circle I just dabbed the foam brush up and down (no brushing back and forth). Then I used a small paintbrush to fill in the inside of the polka dot (this I did brush). Then I gently peeled off the tape and moved on to the next one!

Very simple to do and FREE (one of my favorite words)!

I almost forgot, when making your stencils make more than one. In this small area I used two paper stencils just because when one gets too much paint on it it doesn't work as well. If you were going to do a large wall or even a whole room you should probably make several stencils.

Did I mention how much I love paint! It is such an inexpensive way to change a room.

You probably noticed I also painted the bathroom vanity. I was able to complete this in just one afternoon.

Painting oak cabinets is such an easy fix and makes a huge difference.

• remove all doors, drawers, and hinges
• give everything a light sanding with sandpaper
• I used one coat of primer (let dry completely)
• one coat of paint (let dry completely)
• another coat of paint
• put hinges and doors back on

my children's bathroom reveal

Today I am sharing what I have accomplished in my children's bathroom so far.

For the life of me I cannot find a before pic of this room. When we toured our house I took lots of photos, but my digital photo organization needs some work.

I mentioned yesterday that I started decorating this room over the summer, but got sidetracked by other things. I decided I finally need to finish this room for good! So here is what the room looks like today!



I am loving all the changes and it suits my children as well. When they were little we did the traditional kiddy bathroom (you know the one's fish, monkey). Now they are older (I have two in middle school) and they need something a little more grown up. I also have one boy and two girls so it had to be a bit gender neutral.

I was at a loss as to what to do with the blank wall over the bathtub until yesterday. I came across Desiree's craft room at the 36th avenue and fell in love with her polka dot wall. I knew this would be perfect in the bathroom. It adds just a hint of whimsy and fun to the room!

Tomorrow I will be sharing how I made my polka dots without using a store bought stencil. Super easy and FREE!

Before I go I must share photos of my daughter's bathroom drawer.

I lined the vanity drawer's with woven place mats I found at Michael's in the dollar section! They were the perfect length I just had to trim about an inch off the width. It then became the perfect place to organize all the girls hair pieces.

kiddy bathroom

This week I am working on finishing my children's bathroom. I actually started this project over the summer, but sadly it has been neglected since then. Over the summer I took down the out of date palm tree wall border and gave the room a fresh coat of paint. I put up a shower curtain and some artwork, but failed to add the finishing touches to make the room really pop!

While I am hoping to finish the room today or tomorrow I thought I would share some awesome children's bathrooms with you.

This makes me want to organize and pretty up underneath the sink as well!
