Craft room tour & source list

I'm excited to be back and blogging again, this is my first blog post in almost a year. I've spent the past year working on my Etsy shop, and of course doing home interior projects.

 I am looking forward to blogging more often and sharing what I've been up to. A big change that I recently made was renaming this blog (previously home happy home) to match my Etsy shop. It just made sense to have everything more cohesive. I'm also attempting to upgrade the look of my blog which is challenging for me since I'm not tech savvy.

I figured I would start off with a little tour of my craft room and a source list to help anyone who is in the process of shopping, decorating, etc.

This side of my craft room is where I have my computer desk and do all my shipping, bills, paperwork, etc. 

My desk is the Linnmon model with Alex drawers from Ikea (link)

Shelves are also from Ikea. Brackets are inexpensive plastic Ekby Stodis that I spray painted gold (link) White shelves are Ekby Osten (link)

Office and Create sign were DIY

This little corner is functional and pretty to look at. It holds items that I don't use as often and some fun pieces.

The shelf is the Ikea Hyllis, it is a steal at $14.99. I spray painted mine gold and added the wood shelves which I painted white. (link)

This is what I consider my crafting corner. I paint, scrapbook, make banners, anything crafty happens over here. I also store my many filled scrapbook albums over here (yes they are all filled). 

My craft cart is the Raskog utility cart from Ikea (link) I could no longer find it in this color, but I've seen similar ones at Michael's (link)

I purchased my desk and cubby system at Ikea years ago. The exact model is no longer available, but it is similar to the Kallax workstation (link)

Reorganized baking cabinet

It's been over two years since I first revealed my new baking cabinet (you can find it here). 

Over those two years I've moved all our spices over here as well. It just made sense since this cabinet is by our stove, and I was tired of constantly running over to our pantry. 

In time this cabinet kind of became a mess!

Recently I took everything out and reorganized it before I lost my mind!

Nothing fancy just moved some items to other places and cleaned it out, but it looks and functions so much better now.

In the future if I'm feeling ambitious I might add some colorful fabric to the back or paint it. I'd also like to add some organizers for the spices. 

Coat closet turned multipurpose closet

Our entry coat closet has been a mess for years. The one standard builders shelf just wasn't cutting it and we needed more storage space. So my husband and I finally decided to tackle it once and for all.

It was difficult to get a good picture since the closet is right inside the entrance.

We started by emptying out the closet {we left the existing shelf in place}.

I painted the closet with leftover wall paint from our main floor. Luckily we already had some extra shelves in our garage that we cut to size and installed in the closet.

Since my office/scrapbook room is next door to the closet we decided it was the perfect place to house our wireless printer and even our main computer tower.

I love having everything organized and now it's easy to find what I'm looking for! Since we already had all the supplies it didn't cost anything to turn this underutilized coat closet into a functional multipurpose closet. Love it!

Office clutter and a new gallery wall

Last Wednesday my kids all returned to school! My son started his freshman year in high school which had me a little nervous {my little man in that big school with all those big kids}. I have one daughter in middle school {7th grade} and my baby is in her last year of elementary school {5th grade}. Of course I was waiting at the door when each one arrived home to grill them about their day! As usual everything went great...no one got lost finding their classrooms, all lockers were opened with ease. So now that we are in week two I can relax a bit knowing they are fine. I guess it just goes to show that no matter how old they get us parents will never stop worrying about them. EVER!

 

 

What I really wanted to share with you today is the hot cluttered mess my office was last week! Over the summer I kind of let things slide and the clutter started to take over {which drives me crazy}.

 

You all remember what my office/craft space looked like when I first showed it to you awhile back.

 



 

It was so clean and organized, I was in love!

 

Then summer break happened and I got busy hanging out with my kids and my office became a little neglected.

 

 

 

 

 

 

It was driving me insane!

 

So once the kids were back in school the first thing I did was clean out my entire desk area.

I am an organized person by nature all of my crafting supplies and paperwork have a designated area. The problem was that things laid around on my desk for a couple weeks before I had the time {or energy} to put them away. My solution was to come up with an "in transition" space.

 

 

 

 

Now all that "stuff" has a place to go until I can put it away for good. For example papers that need to be filed in the filing cabinet have a home until I file them. When I print coupons they have a home until I can cut them and get them in my coupon binder. I even made a spot for my husband and all the odd's and end's he leaves around!

 

Luckily I already had the paper trays {previously used to store my scrapbooking paper in} and I just used glue dots to attach the labels to the fronts.

 

 

I also used some small bowls to contain paper clips and push pins that were constantly getting lost.

 

And since I was on my cleaning kick I decided to hang a little gallery wall over my expedit with frames and items I already had around the house.

 

 

 

 

 

Even though my office wasn't overly messy it was bothering me {a lot}! It feels so good now to be organized again and ready for another school year!

Mudroom reveal

Today I am showing off my new favorite room in our home...our mudroom!

If you've been following along the last couple weeks you will remember that we started off this project with NOTHING. This room did not exist three weeks ago. If you want to check out the building process you can go here and here. My husband built this much needed room in our garage and is now our new entrance.

Here is the new view from our kitchen where the garage entrance used to be.

This is the room as you come in from the kitchen. My handy husband also built me this shelf with hooks for all our coats.

My favorite part of the room is the built in organizational system my husband built. The shelves below the bench can hold up to eighteen pairs of shoes.

I added baskets to the top shelves to hold gloves, hats, scarves, etc. Even our dog has his own basket for his doggie clothes, leash, etc.

When the kids come home from school they each have their own space for their backpacks.

I'm actually impressed that we were able to complete this entire room in under three weeks and on a budget.

No more shoes and coats cluttering up our kitchen {jumping for joy}!

You would think we need a break from all the construction and mess, but my husband is already sketching out plans to renovate our kitchen this spring. That will be lot's of FUN  work!
