Mudroom reveal

Today I am showing off my new favorite room in our home...our mudroom!

If you've been following along the last couple weeks you will remember that we started off this project with NOTHING. This room did not exist three weeks ago. If you want to check out the building process you can go here and here. My husband built this much needed room in our garage and is now our new entrance.

Here is the new view from our kitchen where the garage entrance used to be.

This is the room as you come in from the kitchen. My handy husband also built me this shelf with hooks for all our coats.

Mudroom entrance to the garage.

The other side of the room.

My favorite part of the room is the built in organizational system my husband built. The shelves below the bench can hold up to eighteen pairs of shoes.

I added baskets to the top shelves to hold gloves, hats, scarves, etc. Even our dog has his own basket for his doggie clothes, leash, etc.

When the kids come home from school they each have their own space for their backpacks.

Here are a few before and after pics.

I'm actually impressed that we were able to complete this entire room in under three weeks and on a budget.

No more shoes and coats cluttering up our kitchen {jumping for joy}!

You would think we need a break from all the construction and mess, but my husband is already sketching out plans to renovate our kitchen this spring. That will be lot's of FUN  work!

Thanks for sharing part of your busy day with me. Hope you will follow along so we can keep in touch!

    1. Thank you! I love that my husband added the arch to the kitchen/mudroom doorway to match the rest of our home. Now it blends in and doesn't look like we just slapped a room onto the house.

  2. This looks great! I wish we had a logical space for a mudroom. Now that I can park in the garage we enter through the sunroom then have to cross the kitchen and living room to hang up keys/jackets! I'll have to do something fancy in the sunroom :). It looks great! Love the shoe spot!

  9. Great transformation! We have an unheated room between our garage and kitchen where our closet is, but it is in need of a serious makeover. I may borrow some of your ideas. Thanks for sharing. Visiting you via Clean & Scentsible linky party.

  10. Amazing! I am so jealous! haha We have shoes strewn up and down our front hall, but I'm sure even if I had some kind of way to organize it my littles would still insist on the landmines of shoes everywhere. :)

I'd love it if you would share this at F-it Fridays sometime!

  16. I just found this post through Google Image search as I begin almost the exact same project. Can you help me with some more info? What size is the room? If you had to do it again would you go bigger or smaller? About how much did it cost? Can you share a pic of the room from the garage? I'm interested in how you finished it off. Thanks!

    1. Hope I can be some help to you! Our mudroom is 3'11" W and 7'10" long which doesn't include the bench at the end of room which is 15" deep. The size is fine it works for our family of five, but I would have loved to make it larger if we could. We measured our garage and cars and this is as big as we could go and still allow use of our parking spots. I don't have any pics of the outside on hand. The drywall on outside is still unfinished hoping my husband can get it mudded and painted this spring. I don't remember exactly how much we spent but I'm sure it was under $300 total. Price also depends on what type of wood you use for built ins and type of flooring (we used inexpensive flooring until we can afford to redo flooring throughout our main floor). Let me know if you have any other questions! Good luck with your project!

  17. Hi! Just came across this and love it and want to do it in our house! Can I ask - what were your dimensions of the mudroom area and then of the garage after you added this?

  18. Hi! I just came across this. This turned out great. I am looking to something very similar with my garage entrance. I was wondering if you would be willing to share a high level estimated cost for this project. Thanks!
