our master bathroom

If you've been following my blog for awhile you may have realized that I have never showed you our master bathroom. Well there was a reason...it was a boring, neglected space that I never had the energy or money to tackle. Until last week!

I still didn't have a huge budget to work with, but being stuck indoors with all this snow I finally had the free time to work on it!

I spent three days just painting. Day one I painted all the trim, day two I painted the vanity and door, day three I painted the walls! It is amazing what a can of paint can do!

Here are some BEFORE pics of our master bathroom.

I loved the size of our master bathroom just not the finishes. The yellow and baby blue walls weren't terrible just not for me, and the oak {sigh} well it's oak.  Finally the vanity lacked storage with that wasted space underneath.

Here are some DURING photos. Once I get started on project I have a hard time stopping and taking photos so there aren't very many.

Our bathroom and master bedroom have an opening that SOMEDAY I would like to have drywalled. Yes, that is me on the very top of the ladder painting the bathroom.

Here are the AFTER photos.

As I mentioned earlier the biggest change in the room is just paint. The trim is nice and bright now. I painted the door and vanity black. The walls are painted in Behr graceful gray.

My husband framed the existing builders mirror for me and added a new light fixture. We added some floating shelves from Ikea above the toilet for more storage and some new towels brighten up the space.

I would still like to do something with the windows above the tub...maybe frame them out...not sure yet {open to suggestions}. In the future I would love to replace the flooring as well!

For now I am enjoying our relaxing and peaceful new space!

Have a great day!

Amy

  2. I love your master bath makeover! The cabinet painted black looks so nice and I love how you added shelves to the open area under the sink. It looks like a totally different room now!

I have a corner tub and 2 windows also and just framed out the windows instead of adding fabric window treatments. We had fabric blinds a few years ago and had to replace them because of the moisture.

  3. Thanks Lori! Those corner windows are tricky. I'm leaning towards just framing them out as well. Thanks for the advise.

  6. I love how this turned out! My master bathroom has very similar cabinets and this is really inspiring me to paint them black! I would drywall that opening too--it really makes me wonder why homes are built like that! Thanks so much for sharing your makeover!

  8. Amy, I love, love, love the changes. I was hoping you'd be willing to let me know where you got those great gray/white patterned towels. I have looked everywhere for some to match my existing fabric. These are EXACTLY what I've been wanting. Congrats on your new bathroom. If I were you I'd be taking a long soak in that great tub and taking in all the beauty of your new room. Enjoy!

  22. Love what you did here! Our master bath had the same "opening" at the wall/ceiling next to our bedroom. It was the first thing we did after we moved in...we had someone come in and drywall it! Best decision we ever made:)

  27. I love what you did with your bathroom. I have two suggestions - paint the brackets on the Ikea shelves to match the wall paint so the shelves themselves pop a bit more. I think shutters or white vinyl blinds that are wide and look like they're made of wood on the tub windows. You might get a mold issue with fabric.

  28. I love your makeover! I am building a new house and am planning to paint the oak cabinets. Did you prime the cabinets first or just paint? What type did you use? Thanks!

  29. I would love my how to info on the cabinet transformation. Materials used - looks like you put cleats on the sides of the current cabinet - did you nail, glue, both? Have a similar "builder grade" master bath and plan Graceful Gray for the walls and Mined Coal (both Behr colors) for the cabinet and the window frame and to frame the mirror.
